UNLOCKING THE POTENTIAL OF CHILDREN WITH AUTISM

In order to provide the appropriate programmes for children with autism The Key School offers the following therapies and interventions. These therapies and interventions overlap with one another to the extent that this ensures our work with our children is as holistic as possible:

Interventions and therapies include:

  • Individual Development Programmes (IDPs). We work with parents to develop an IDP for each child which is then implemented by a team of therapists, teachers and family members or anyone else who works with the child on a regular basis.
  • Speech and language therapy (individually and in groups)
  • Occupational therapy (individually and in groups)
  • Play therapy (usually in small groups)
  • Music therapy (in groups or individually if needed)
  • Classroom intervention (in groups of differing sizes)
  • Life skills training (this is covered by all the therapies but is reinforced with actual outings into the community)
  • Functional academics (in the classroom)
  • Self sufficiency skills (various team members)
  • Behaviour modification (for individual children)
  • Computer skills (individually)
  • Daily schedules (children require daily schedules for prepare them for ‘what comes next’)
  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
  • Picture Exchange Communication (PECs)
  • Makaton sign language
